DBT-Informed Therapy

Thrive in the life you want to live

DBT-informed therapy uses core principles and strategies from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), but it is not the full, comprehensive DBT program. Instead, it draws on DBT’s powerful tools to support emotion regulation, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and healthy relationships tailored to your unique needs and goals.

DBT-informed therapy may include:

  • Learning and practicing DBT skills in individual sessions
  • Using diary cards or chain analysis to better understand behaviors
  • Applying a balance of acceptance and change strategies in therapy
  • Focusing on emotional resilience, crisis management, or behavior change

However, unlike comprehensive DBT, it does not include all four treatment modes. This track is more flexible and less structured than comprehensive DBT. It might involve weekly DBT individual therapy sessions, biweekly meetings, or another arrangement—based entirely on your needs and goals.

I typically reserve this option for individuals who have already completed a full DBT therapy program, either with me or with another adherent DBT therapist.

Individual Sessions

I integrate DBT skills and principles throughout treatment as we work on ongoing relationship challenges, lingering mental health concerns, clarifying life goals, strengthening self-respect, or cultivating greater peace and fulfillment.

DBT-informed therapy provides practical tools and a balanced approach that emphasizes both validation and meaningful change. However, it is not a substitute for comprehensive, adherent DBT therapy for individuals struggling with life-threatening behaviors, chronic suicidality, or pervasive emotion dysregulation. In those cases, the full DBT model offers the structure and intensity needed for safety and lasting change.

Family & Friends

Loving someone who struggles with pervasive emotion dysregulation can be incredibly challenging for family members and friends. It’s common to feel confused, helpless, or unsure of how best to support them, while also needing support yourself.

I offer services specifically for loved ones to help:

  • Increase understanding of your loved one’s emotional and behavioral struggles
  • Learn practical skills and communication strategies that foster healthier interactions
  • Strengthen your ability to set boundaries and care for your own well-being

DBT family sessions are designed to empower you with insight, tools, and support so you can be there for your loved one without losing yourself in the process.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
